The 10th edition of the Italian GT Championship getting the green flag in Vallelunga

02/05/2012 – The circuit "Piero Taruffi" of Vallelunga, in the province of Rome, will house the first round of the Italian GT 2012 Championship. The tenth edition of the tricolored GT will feature the participation of a top class set of about fifteen contenders, with prestigious works cars belonging to three different brands.

In GT2, the highest class, the duel will involve Ferrari and Porsche, with the reigning champions, the brothers Giovanni and Victor Coggiola (CVG SA), behind the wheel of the German “RSR” that will try to defend their title from the attacks moved by the 458 Italia of Rocca-Romanini (Black Team).

Three brands will be officially competing in GT3 instead. Audi Sport Italia, winner last year with Marco Bonanomi, will defend the title with two R8 LMS “ultra” given to Andrea Sonvico and Christian Montanari, with the latter replacing for the first two rounds “Dindo” Capello, who in turn is involved in the preparation tests ahead of the 24 hours of Le Mans. The second car will feature a new lineup made by the Sicilian Davide De Benedetto, winner of three races in 2011 with Corvette, and the Roman Alex Frassineti, who comes from the Carrera Cup Italy.

BMW Italy will also debut in the tricolored GT with two Z4 GT3 of Team Roal Motorsport led by Roberto Ravaglia, with the lineups composed by the two times FIA champion Thomas Biagi with Stefano Colombo and by Michela Cerruti, sharing the cockpit of her car with Edoardo Liberati, winner of the Italian Formula Azzurra -Michele Alboreto Trophy in 2008.

Porsche Italy will also provide technical support, assistance and spare parts to Ebimotors and Antonelli Motorsport. The team led by Enrico Borghi gave its GT3R to the winner of the last three editions of the Carrera Cup Italy, the 31 years old Alessandro Balzan, that will share the drive with the 21 years olf Gicomo Barri, while the team led by Marco Antonelli will take on track the crw made by Massimo Monti and Christian Passuti.

Two Ferrari 458 Italia will be lined up by Vita4One Italy, the team of the several times-champion Matteo Bobbi. Stefano Comandini and Valentino Fornaroli will be on the first car while the former Formula One driver Enrique Bernoldi and the 21 years old British Michael Lyons will be on the second for the two opening races only.

GT Cup, that is the class reserved to single branded configuration cars, will propose a Lamborghini-Porsche duel, where the reigning champions Sanna-Stancheris (Lamborghini Gallardo-Team Imperiale) will have to defend the title obtained last year from the attacks of the Porsche 997 Cup of Antonelli Motorsport driven by Granzotto-Cicognani, Gaiotto-Magli and Donativi-Bellini.

The programme of the first weekend of the championship schedules two qualifying sessions on Saturday (at 9,00 and 12,10 GMT+2), while the two races on the length of 48 minutes + 1 lap will start on Saturdayat 17,00 and Sunday at 12,00 with live Tv coverage on Sportitalia.
