The challenge in the five classes of the Italian GT Championship to resume in Imola

The two races at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari will be followed by the rounds in Vallelunga and Mugello and are all set to kick off the sprint to the line of season 2017 with all classifications still open and several line-ups still in contention for the titles.

The circuit of Imola will house the Italian GT Championship this coming weekend that will resume the challenge after the summer break with 35 entered cars. The two races at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari are the fifth round of the season, the third last, and classifications are still open with all titles, trophies, and cups still to be decided. SUPER GT3: The Milanese Stefano Gai is likely to be the driver to be beaten in this class. The Black Bull Swiss Racing driver, despite his co-equiper Mirko Venturi had to skip the two most recent appointments, is holding the classification lead, but the name of his co-equiper on the Ferrari 488 at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari is still not known. He will be chased by another Red car from Maranello: the one driven by Malucelli-Cheever (Scuderia Baldini 27), that is 17 points short of the lead, followed by the two Lamborghini Huracans driven by Frassineti-Beretta (Ombra Racing) and Agostini-Zampieri (Antonelli Motorsport), that respectively are 23 and 24 points short of the top. They are followed by the 488 of Niccolò Schirò (Easy Race), who will have Marco Cioci as co-equiper in Imola. Treluyer-Ghirelli (Audi R8 LMS-Audi Sport Italia) will hunt for the first victory of the season, while Comandini-Cerqui (BMW M6 GT3) will try and get one step closer to the Super GT3 title for non-pro line-ups. Among the entered cars, the Huracan of Cassarà-Gentili (Ombra Racing), Baruch-Palma (Petri Corse Motorsport) and Lorenzo Veglia who will have Kikko Galbiati (Antonelli Motorsport) on his side, and the Ferrari 488 (AF Corse) driven by the Japanese Motoaki Ishikawa will put up a very interesting show.

GT3: The comeback of the Audi R8 LMS run by Audi Sport Italia driven by Luca Magnoni and Luca Rangoni is the main theme of GT3. The class is led by the Porsche GT3R driven by Venerosi-Baccani (Ebimotors). The Ferarris 458 Italia of Bontempelli-Niboli (MP1 Corse) and La Mazza-Magli (Easy Race) will also be present as the Corvette Z06R driven by Colajanni-Del Castello (Erreci Proracing).

SUPER GT CUP: A total of 12 Lamborghini Huracans will compete in class Super GT Cup. The classification is quite compact with four cars in 11 points. After the two races held in Mugello, Liang-Ortiz (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing) took the lead, but they are only nine points clear of Matteo Desideri (Antonelli Motorsport), who is in turn followed by two pairings of the team from Forlì: Tujula-Vainio and Cazzaniga-D’Amico. Vincenzo Sospiri’s flags will also be raised high by the Polish winners of Race-1 in Monza Lewandowski-Myzkowski, while Antonelli Motorsport will make Ruberti-Hurata and Ryan Hardwick debut alongside the confirmed Takashi-Basz, Pietro Perolini and Desideri-Necchi. The entry list of SGT Cup is completed by the two cars run by Imperiale Racing for Bonacini-Pastorelli and Durante-Demarchi and the Huracan of Giudice-Perlini (Petri Corse Motorsport).

GT CUP: Two cars will fight in the class reserved for single make cars. The Porsche 997 of classification leader Eugenio Pisani (Siliprandi Racing) will see Walter Palazzo on his side, battling the victory out with La Mazza-Nicolosi (Ebimotors). The duel that has characterized the whole season is relaunched, but the title seems to be heading to the driver from Genova.

GTS: Sabino De Castro (Porsche Cayman) is heading to the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit with an 11 points advantage on Luca Magnoni (Ginetta G55) in the classification. Ebimotors’ driver will have team mates Maino-Arrigosi on his side, while Nova Race’s driver will count on Marchetti-Speakerwas. The entry list is completed by Neri-Veronesi, on the Porsche Cayman run by Kinetic Racing.

PROGRAMME: The fifth weekend of the season will start on Friday with the two free practice sessions while qualifying for classes Super GT Cup-GT Cup-GTS will take place on Saturday (from 8.50 to 9.25) as those of classes Super GT3-GT3 (from 9.35 to 10.10). Race-1 for classes Super GT Cup-GT Cup-GT Cup-GTS will follow at 14.45 and that of SGT3-GT3 at 16.35. Race-2 will take place on Sunday: SGT3-GT3 will get green lights at 13,55, while SGT Cup-GT Cup-GTS at 15.50. All races will be run on the length of 48 minutes + 1 lap and will be covered live by Raisport (SGT3-GT3) and AutomotoTV-Sky (SGT Cup-GT Cup-GTS). They will also be available through live streaming at www.acisport.it/CIGT.
