Giancarlo Fisichella is about to start his third season in the Italian GT Championship, always wearing the colors of the Scuderia Baldini team. This is a strong and inseparable pairing as the Italian driver and the team owner Fabio Baldini are long time friends also outside of racing tracks and races solely on Ferrari cars.

Fisichella, after a year of absence from the Italian team in the series, will take part in the forthcoming Endurance series that will start next May 21-23 in Pergusa, in the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo with Stefano Gai and Daniel Zampieri.

The most recent participation of Fisichella in a championship round goes back to Vallelunga in 2019, before the closer of Mugello, which he skipped due to an international commitment. The former F1 driver and two times winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans commented his comeback in this way: “I am happy for being back after a year of absence. I will face this season with a lot of motivation, I was sorry to skip season 2020 but this pandemic has been tough for all of us and also our sponsors struggled a bit. The important is we are back, I am positive and cannot wait to start.

Giancarlo, will you be racing on several fronts this season?

Yes, this year alongside the Endurance Italian GT, I will contest the Endurance World Championship in the 488 GTE of AF Corse with Thomas Flohr and Francesco Castellacci. Luckily there are no calendar conflicts, therefore I will also compete in the 24 Hours of Spa with the 488 GT3, I would say this is going to be quite a busy season.

You and Scuderia Baldini are quite inseparable.

Definitely, I have always felt great in this team and the atmosphere is fantastic. It is a very professional team and I am friends with all the family of Fabio Baldini. There is a lot of respect among us and I am very happy to be back to racing with them."

You know Gai well as you have been co-equipers for two seasons. Did you have the chance to appreciate Zampieri?

Yes, Stefano and I shared two great seasons, we got great results winning races. I am happy to share the car with him again, but I am also very happy to be sharing it with Daniel. We are friends, I believe he is one of the strongest GT drivers around, he adapts quickly to the car and circuit and I am sure he will not have problems learning the 488 Evo quickly. Honestly, we are a good and strong trio this year.

Can we talk about objectives?

I do not want to hide anything. As said, Scuderia Baldini is a top team, the drivers too, therefore we aim to the win. We will give it our best shot, sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not. The important is to be aware that we have the whole package to do it.

Your family has Sicilian origins, do you want to say something to the Pergusa fans that could not get to the circuit due to the Covid-19 regulations?

I have great memories in Pergusa, where I won in Formula 3. My dad made me know Sicily, it would have been great to be back with him, but unfortunately, he is not with us anymore. The whole of Sicily is special to me, a second city, I love it and I love Sicilian people. I am very happy to be back. I am sorry that fans could not come to the circuit, but I invite them to follow us through socials and TV and streaming. It will be awesome!"

A final question outside of motorsport. What would you say if I mention Josè Mourinho?

Ah, ah, ah, I'd say yay! I am really happy that AC Rome has such an important coach, with a lot of experience and a lot of victories. Certainly, he did not come just for his stipend, but to define a great team with high-level players. This makes me hopeful, I cannot wait to see the beginning of the new football season. The “Magica” will be even more Magica!

The await is mounting to welcome Fisichella and all the Scuderia Baldini in Pergusa, but the current Covid-19 regulations do not allow fans to be present. ACI Sport has therefore planned an extensive media coverage featuring live TV and streaming of the event that will be published shortly.
