Tomorrow the final day of the 30th Rally Costa Smeralda

06/05/2011 - The finish line of the third Round of the Italian Rally Championship and the second round of the Rally Terra Trophy is scheduled for tomorrow at 19.45 (GMT+2). The race was full of twists with Andreucci on Peugeot finishing stage one at the leadf followed by Scandola on Ford and Rossetti on Abarth.

Day one of the 30th Rally Costa Smeralda sees now Paolo Andreucci, leader of the C.I.R. classification, on top of the charts with a time of 45'39.3. The Italian driver, with his navigator Anna Andreussi avoided all the pitfalls of the dirt road marked by the passage of the WRC cars. Umberto Scandola was second and the Abarth Grande Punto S2000 driven by Luca Rossetti was third.

Double surprise in the Rally Terra Trophy that witnessed the two retirements in stage 4 by Mikkelsen on Skoda Fabia and Andrea Aghini on Peugeot 207. Piero Longhi and Gigi Pirollo, got on the lead of the TRT classification as well as the fourth place of the absolute classification on their Peugeot 207 S2000.
Stage one, the "Lago Omodeo", started at 11. 13 (GMT+2) and was run on the distance of 10,21 Km. The best time was set by the couple Umberto Scandola - Guido D´amore on Ford Fiesta S2000 A - Style.

The long stage of "Monte Grighini Nord", 21,32 km long, saw the Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen setting the fastest time at the wheel of the Skoda Fabia Super2000 of Team Italia, that got to the lead of the race, followed in the stage and in the absolute classification by Scandola and Andreucci. On the 14,34 Km of the "Alta Marmilla" Rossetti was first, followed by Scandola and Mikkelsen. Andreucci put his mark on the 19,66 Km of the "Monte Grighini Sud", the last stage of the day. The Italian got himself on top of the classification in this way proceeding in the stage Rossetti with the latter improving his feeling with the setup of the Grande Punto.

Scandola was third as he ended the stage with a rear axle shaft damaged giving away the first position.

The driver from Naples Fabio Gianfico, at the wheel of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX leads the way in the Production championship, after getting a good rhythm. He was followed by Maurizio Angrisani, at the wheel of the EVO X version of Mitsubishi Lancer, a bit nervous in the initial stages as not used to dirt roads.

In summary, this has been a good day, sunny throughout and with numerous spectators along the streets of this first part of the 30th Rally Costa Smeralda. Day two will start tomorrow at 12.00 (GMT+2) with the "Braniatogghiu", live on Italian TV. Three more stages will follow for a total of 73 km before the finish line on the island of Bianca in Olbia's harbour at 19.45.
