The 5th Rally di Roma Capitale starts the sprint to the line of the Italian Rally Championship

Andreucci, Peugeot, Campedelli, Ford, and Scandola, Skoda, are all set to play their best chances for the Italian Rally 2017 Championship on the roads of Lazio.

Rome, Wednesday 13 September 2017. An important rally, a long and very challenging round for everybody, that for this reason will be valid not only for the Italian Rally Championship, but also for the prestigious European Championship. The 5th Rally di Roma Capitale, the rally organized by Motorsport Italia, has all the ingredients for a great spectacle with high quality cars and drivers challenging each other in three long racing days. The extraordinary prologue will be the special stage “Aci Roma Arena” in Eur, right opposite the “Square Colosseum”, i.e. Palazzo della Civiltà del Lavoro, on Friday September 15thhigh-quality.30. This stage will be proceeded by the official opening of the rally at 16,45 at the Mouth of Truth.


This is an important event and a decisive challenge to the Italian Rally Championship. The title is a matter concerning Paolo Andreucci, and co-driver Anna Andreussi, on Peugeot 208 T16 R5, Simone Campedelli, and co-driver Pietro Elia Ometto on Ford Fiesta R5, and Umberto Scandola, with Guido D’Amore at the notes on the Skoda Fabia R5. Andreucci is leading the classification at 73.5 points, Campedelli is second at 58 and Scandola follows at 57, but the jokers and the increased coefficient of the closing race, i.e. the Rally Due Valli in Verona, keep the classification still open.

 
This rally is going to be decisive also in the 2WD Championship and in CIR Junior. In the first, the duel between the Italo-Swiss Kevin Gilardoni and Marco Pollara has been going on since the beginning of the season. The first will compete on Renault Clio R3T, while the latter on Peugeot. Pollara is also the absolute protagonist of the Junior Championship on his 208 R2, that is the same car driven by his nearest rival Damiano De Tommaso. Ready for the challenge in junior and most importantly in the Trofeo Peugeot Competition are also Andrea Mazzocchi, Luca Bottarelli, Tommaso Ciuffi and Nicola Manfredi.

Other drivers will fight for the victory of the rally. In particular, the extraordinary 16 years old Finn Kalle Rovanpera, Peugeot 208 T16 R5, and Alessandro Perico, Skoda Fabia R5. Antonio Rusce, Ford Fiesta R5, and the very quick Andrea Crugnola also have good chances for a great outing.

 
In the Italian R1 Championship, Stefano Martinelli will be back behind the wheel of his Suzuki Swift after the long summer break. He will have to face the challenge of the under 25 Emanuele Rosso, who will try and keep his lead in the Renault Twingo Top Trophy. At Renault, the trophy reserved for the Clio R3T will see Gilardoni and Riccardo Canzian challenging each other.

 
ACI Team Italia’s driver Gianandrea Pisani will take part in the European Rally Championship. The Italian will make his debut on a Toyota GT86 CS-R, thanks to the programme devised by Motorsport Italia in collaboration with Acisport, Toyota and Pirelli.

 
The winner of the Abarth Selenia 124 Rally Fabrizio Andolfi Junior will also take part in the European rally. The Italian will have to face the challenge of Andrea Nucita, who will run a test race on a Abarth 124 Rally, prepared by Bernini.
