The Russians Alexey Lukyanuk and Alexey Arnautov, Ford Fiesta R5, dominate the 6th Rally Roma Capitale

The second place went to an extraordinary Giandomenico Basso on Skoda Fabia R5. Grzegorz Grzyb third on Skoda Fabia R5. Among the drivers entered in the Italian Rally Championship, Giacomo Scattolon, Skoda, on top.

Rome, Sunday July 22nd, 2018 – The 6th Rally Roma Capitale, race valid for the Italian Rally Championship and FIA European Championship ended as unique event due to the commitment of the organizers of Motorsport Italia led by Max Rendina, but also due to the amazing setting and technical content. Since the spectacular opening in a Rome that was completely open to the rally and welcomes it in some of its most extraordinary places, like Castel Sant’Angelo, the city center and then EUR. The rally has been decided in the splendid locations of Fiuggi, Guarcino, Pico, Roccasecca, Santopadre and on the seafront of Ostia with a lot of fans enjoying it. The rally has been difficult and tough, and at the eve it was introduced as a hard-fought battle among the big guns of the Italian Championship and those of the European Championship, but it became two separate races since early on and classification tactics played a major role. The two rallies saw the “European” contenders having the upper hand, with the only exception of the splendid run of Giandomenico Basso, who managed to fight for the top on his Skoda Fabia R5 until the end. The first position went to the Russians Alexey Lukyanuk and Alexey Arnautov, Ford Fiesta R5, that dominated the race showing that the pace of the best in the European Championship is really high.

The second overall place went to Giandomenico Basso, and Moira Lucca, not entered to the CIR, who managed to split the list of foreign drivers on Skoda Fabia R5, as they were followed by the Pole Grzegorz Grzyb , the German Fabian Kreim and the Portuguese Bruno Magalhaes, all on Skoda Fabia R5. The big names of the Italian Rally Championship had a rally to be forgotten. Umberto Scandola had to retire due to a serious problem to the transmission of his Skoda Fabia R5, Simone Campedelli was very quick on Ford Fiesta R5 Orange 1Racing , but retired due to a double puncture and then Paolo Andreucci, Peugeot 208 T16, had to stop when heading to a good placing and to another win in the Italian Championship. He had a contact and broke one arm of the right rear suspension of his Peugeot 208 ending his race two stages earlier than scheduled. New names secured heavy points in the CIR tough, as Giacomo Scattolon took P1 with Matteo Nobili on Skoda Fabia R5, a driver that is showing good potential. They were followed by Antonio Rusce, on Ford Fiesta R5 alongside Sauro Farnocchia, Marco Pollara and Giuseppe Princiotto, on Peugeot 208 T16 In CIR Junior the race was managed by Damiano De Tommaso and Michele Ferrara early on, that led the Peugeot 208 R2 on top, having the upper hand on their rivals, that experienced some issues like Andrea Mazzocchi, Alessandro Nerobutto, Tommaso Ciuffi and Jacopo Trevisani who went off in the penultimate stage. De Tommaso won the rally also in the 2WD. Among the Renault Clio R3T, Ivan Ferrarotti led Riccardo Canzian. In the fight for the Suzuki Rally Trophy the challenge involved Giorgio Cogni and Stefano Martinelli, with the driver from Piacenza taking his fourth win of the season. Alberto Paris dominated the Renault Twingo R1 Trophy putting in the best scratch in the Pico stage.
