Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) seems to continue with no rest his way to the title with performances that since start of the year, and in particular after Hungary, show a speed and a consistency of top level. Also the Red Bull Ring the Norwegean driver sets the best lap times of the two free practice sessions, with respectively 1:30.876 and 1:30.479.

Behind him in session one an excellent Jonny Edgar (Jenzer Motorsport) with 1:31.074 and third Roman Stanek (US Racing). In the second session it is instead the championship leader, Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam), unfortunately with some fever and fourth in session one, to set second best with 1:30.628.

Red flag and stop to qualifying due to an accident between Nicola Marinangeli (Bhai Tech Racing) and Ido Cohen (Van Amersfoort Racing), with the first of the two getting a black flag and no possibility to continue the session.
