Following the FIA World Motor Sport Council, important updates were presented regarding the allocation of Super License points for some championships. Specifically, a decisive indication came for the Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA, for which the award to the winner of 25 points for the Super Licence was confirmed. This fact recognizes the quality of the Championship itself by the International Automobile Federation, a quality also confirmed by the teams that participated in it in 2019, from which 100% of them gave confirmation of participation to the 2020 season.
If on the one hand the Formula Regional receives the right confirmation and recognition for the work done, on the other hand the scores for the Super License of some equivalent series are reduced, and these in the best cases do not exceed 15 points, almost half and as many as 10 fewer points than the FIA certified series. The FIA certification therefore remains not only a title, but is realized even more for the 2020 season and makes the Regional European Championship certified by FIA the most attractive and functional championship for pilots on their growth in the FIA path from karting to F1.
On the FIA Super Licence front, news and opportunities for pilots participating in the Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA are even greater thanks to the agreement with the F3 Asian Championship. The project sees the calendars of the two Championships cover the entire 2020 sporting season without overlapping, with the 5 appointments of the Asian series taking place in the typical European Winter Season, ending in February, while the 8 race weekends of the Formula Regional will start in April and finish in October. This will allow, among other things, an exceptional potential of 43 points, 25 for the Formula Regional and as many as 18 for the Asian F3, which can be conquered by the hypothetical winner of both championships, with the possibility therefore to gain the Super License.
This project which, although kept separate, creates a strong collaboration between the two championships, will be presented in all details in the coming days.
