The races at the Piero Taruffi circuit in Vallelunga end this coming weekend the 18th edition of the Italian GT Championship. The Endurance titles have already been assigned in Monza and the circuit near Rome will now name the winners of the Sprint series for the classes GT3 and GT4, ending regularly a season that started late and last until late autumn due to the difficulties connected to the Covid-19 pandemic.

GT3: A lot of crews can still aim to the final win, but the ones with higher chances are five. After the decision of the TNA on the facts at Mugello, Riccardo Agostini (Audi R8 LMS) lost 13 points and now stands at 70 but still retains the lead of the general classification. The Audi Sport Italia’s driver has the worst situation in terms of results that have to be discarded by the regulations. The 26 years old driver from Padova will have a very strong co-equiper at his side, Mattia Drudi, who was not present in the opener in Misano, but that will definitely give a crucial contribution in the GT3 title hunt.

Behind Agostini, some 12 points shy are the GT3 Endurance reigning champions Roda-Rovera (Ferrari 488-AF Corse), that are followed by the 18 years old Lorenzo Ferrari, who is 2 points behind and that will share the Mercedes AMG GT3 of Antonelli Motorsport with Loris Spinelli. Equal on points are VSR’s Nemoto-Tujula (Lamborghini Huracan), while the fifth car in the title fight is that driven by Comandini-Zug (BMW M6 GT3-BMW Team Italia) that totalled 48 points so far.

An interesting point behind the titles is the debut of Honda in the Italian series. The Japanese make will field a NSX GT3 Evo set up by JAS Motorsport with Nova Race colors for Luca Magnoni and former GT3 2011 Champion Marco Bonanomi in a preview of the important presence of the team with two cars in the next season.

As further novelties, some strong International GT drivers like Matteo Cairoli will be present in the Porsche GT3 R of Dinamic Motorsport with Marco Cassarà, Raffaele Marciello will also share the Mercedes AMG GT3 of Antonelli Motorsport with Alexander Moiseev and Jonathan Cecotto will be behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracan of LP Racing with Giacomo Altoè.

The GT3 PRO-AM title will also be awarded in Vallelunga. Three pairings will challenge each other for the title, as their Ferrari 488s are all within 21 points, these are: Cressoni-Mann (AF Corse), Di Amato-Vezzoni (RS Racing) and Hudspeth-Michelotto (Easy Race). The entry list will be completed by the two Lamborghini Huracan of Kroes-Pulcini (VSR) and Venturini-Frassineti (Imperiale Racing).

GT4: The two classifications of GT4 are also quite open still. In PRO-AM three pairings are within six points. Among these, current classification leaders Segù-De Luca (Mercedes AMG GT4-Nova Race) stand at 85 points and lead the sister car of Scuderia Villorba Corse driven by Belicchi-Vullo and BMW Team Italia’s Guerra-Riccitelli (79). A bit more delayed in the standings, but still in the fight, are Gnemmi-Pera (Porsche Cayman-Ebimotors).

The fight for GT4 AM is also open and Vebster-Riva (Porsche Cayman-Centri Porsche Ticino) lead the provisional classification and proceed the BMW M4 GT4 of Paolo Meloni (W&D Racing Team) by 6 points and the Porsche Cayman (Ebimotors) of Di Giusto-De Amicis by 23. Some new entries will also contest GT4: Francesco Fenici and Christian De Kant will clock the first miles in the Italian series behind the wheel of the Porsche Cayman run by Centri Porsche Ticino.
