The round of the CSAI's championship will start tomorrow from Brescia. Citroen, Ford, Peugeot, Renault and Skoda are the brands fighting for the Italian Rally Championship.
18/04/2012 – A real race, a race that reminds past times, will be run from tomorrow on near Brescia. More than 256 km of tarmac chrono stages and a global distance (including road sections) of nearly 900 kilometers make the 36th Rally 1000 Miglia, organized by the Automobile Club of Brescia, the most complete and difficult race of the Italian Rally Championship. An extraordinary race that will be valid for the CSAI's tricolored championship as well as for the European Rally Championship, the FIA Europe Cup for two wheeled drive cars, for the Italian Rally Junior Championship, Italian Production and for the national Constructors' Challenge Rally of Zone 2, for the Abarth 500 Rally Trophy and the Renault Twingo R2 Top Trophy. The race will be followed by RAI Sport with the special on the C.I.R 36th Rally 1000 Miglia on Friday at 22.30 (GMT+2), and the live coverage of one hour of the race on Saturday 21 April at 18.00 (also recorded at 23.50).
The man to be beaten is Paolo Andreucci on Peugeot 207 S2000. The Tuscan already won five times in Brescia, the most recent victory being scored last year, and his closest rival will probably be Umberto Scandola, the young works driver of Skoda Italy Motorsport. Among the other contenders, Giandomenico Basso on Ford Fiesta S2000, who already won the Rally 1000 Miglia three times (last time in 2009) and was crowned European Rally Champion in 2006 and 2009. Other races to follow will be those run by Alessandro Perico and Matteo Gamba, both on Peugeot 207 Super 2000. A special eye will also have to be kept on Stefano Albertini, Italian Junior 2011 Champion, who thanks to the financial support of CSAI, Pirelli and Racing Lions, will be again among the protagonists of the tricolored series, showing his high potential. In the Italian Rally Junior Championship, the fight is open and very interesting between the Sicilian Nucita, on the Citroen C2 lined up by Vieffecorse, and Campedelli, Citroen DS3 on the works colors of the Italian branch of the French constructor, and Carella on Renault New Twingo R2.
The Italian Production Championship will witness a two sided duel between Ivan Ferrarotti, Renault Megane Rs, and Max Rendina, Misubishi Evo X. All the best drivers entered to the European Rally 2012 Championship will also compete for the absolute classification; the favoured is Juho Hanninen, at his first experience with the 1000 Miglia on the works Skoda Fabia S2000, as he already won the first round of the ERC 2012 in Austria as well as the Ireland Rally of IRC, the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Luca Betti will also be a contender for the podium as the Piedmont driver is one of the best protagonists of the fight for the continental title.
The 36th Rally 1000 Miglia will have its beating hart to the Parc Fermè, the “Rally Village” close to the motorway entrance of Brescia Centre. The starting ceremony will begin on Thursday 19 in Vittoria square in Brescia at 18.50 (GMT+2) and will be followed by the usual spectacle stage at 20.00 at the race track of Franciacorta; after that, duels will continue on Friday and Saturday.
The arrive and prize ceremony will be at 18.00 on Saturday in Brescia's Vittoria square.
