Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai, Ford Fiesta R5, lead day one of the 44th San Marino Rally

Simone Campedelli second at 9''5s. Umberto Scandola, Skoda Fabia R5 third. This evening the spectacle of the "San Marino” stage and the conclusion with points awarded for the championship.

Repubblica San Marino, Saturday 9 July 2016 -  Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai, on Ford Fiesta R5, are leading the 44th San Marino Rally with two rounds to go to the end of this first intense racing day.

The BRC driver posted the quickest time in four of the seven stages scheduled for today. Behind him, Simone Campedelli, also on Ford Fiesta R5 run by BRC is 9''5s adrift. Umberto Scandola on Skoda Fabia R5, is third thanks to the quickest time in the stage "Sestino 3". The driver from Verona managed to get past Denis Colombini, the home underdog on Skoda Fabia S2000, who is currently right at the feet of the podium. Behind the driver from San Marino, another home hero, Daniele Ceccoli on Skoda Fabia Super 2000, who is currently leading the Gravel Trophy. Luca Hoelbling on another Skoda, but R5, is currently second in the trophy.

The stage of "Sestino", saw Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi going off at the second loop, as they went off track in a fast corner on their Peugeot 208 T16 R5.

Very good performance for Giuseppe Testa and Daniele Mangiarotti, Peugeot Junior Team, on 208 R2. He is leading both the Italian 2WD and the Junior.
