Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai win the 44th San Marino Rally on Ford Fiesta R5

BRC crews dominated the fifth round of the Italian Rally Championship. Simone Campedelli second on Ford Fiesta R5 gpl. Ford got the lead of the constructors champiosnhip. Daniele Ceccoli and Skoda Fabia S2000 triumphing in the Gravel Trophy.

Repubblica San Marino, Sunday 10 July 2016 -  The 44th San Marino Rally ended with a one-two on top of the classification for BRC FORD Racing Team that topped the charts with Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai on petrol Fiesta R5 and Simone Campedelli and Danilo Fappani on the GPL Fiesta. The two crews dominated day one and two keeping the others constantly at distance. The third place went to Umberto Scandola and Guido D'Amore on the works Skoda Fabia R5. The Veronese driver had an unhappy choice of tyres in day one, but has been quicker in day two without showing that supremacy shown at the Rally Adriatico.
At the feet of the podium, the local driver Denis Colombini with Michele Ferrara at the notes in the Skoda S2000, that unfortunately stopped in the final stage. Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi, Peugeot 208 T16 had an incident in the first day without physical consequences to the driver or navigator. Thanks to the new regulations he could continue the race, getting those points that allowed him to keep the classification lead. The Italian Rally Championship sees Andreucci now leading at 57,50 points, with Scandola second at 56 and Basso third at 54,75.
In the constructors classification, Ford got the lead (75,75 punti) from Peugeot (64) to Skoda (56).
The Gravel Trophy was at its third round of the season and the San Marino's driver Daniele Ceccoli managed to win the race on Skoda Fabia S2000, followed by Hoelbling, on the Skoda R5 and by Nicolò Marchioro on Peugeot 208 T16 R5.

The youngsters of the Junior staged a great race in San Marino. Giuseppe Testa and Marco Pollara are destined to battle the Junior Championship out, while Luca Panzani, who is fighting for the 2WD Championship, showed their quality for a great future. The best of the three in San Marino was Giuseppe Testa, who led day one in Junior and 2WD, and then led the way in the Junior in day two. This was a partial good result for Peugeot at the end of a troubled race for the works team of the French make. Panzani, Renault Clio R3C, also run a good rally and led the 2WD in day 2, after the bad luck and the puncture that stripped him of the win in day one. Ferrarotti is steal leading 2WD after the San Marino Rally. Marco Pollara of CST Sport also run a good rally, despite this being only his third challenge on the gravel. The Sicilian driver has been surprising everyone and put his name forward for the fight for the Junior title.
