Nicola Benucci and Alessandro Balzan (Ferrari 458 Italia) are race-2 winners of the 4th round of the Italian GT Championship run at the French circuit of Paul Ricard. The lineup of MP1 Corse proceeded Mapelli-Schoeffler (Audi R8 LMS-Audi Sport Italia) by 5"710s at the end of a spectacular race, while Barri-Bortolotti (Lamborghini Gallardo -Imperiale Racing) ended third at 13"246s.

The GT Cup victory went to the Porsche 997 driven by Alessandri-Pipkin (Antonelli Motorsport), that led the Lamborghini Gallardo of Mancinelli-Goldstein (Eurotech Engineering) and their team mates Galbiati-Passuti.

In the GT3 classification, Mapelli and Schoeffler strengthened their leadership reaching 81 points. Giammaria and Casè follow (73), while Omar Galbiati reinstalled himself on top of the GT Cup charts with 96 points, that is two clear of Iacone and Tempesta.

Race-2 as it happened: Good battle between Mapelli and Pier Guidi at the start. BMS-Scuderia Italia's driver got the lead, with the Audi driver following him and then Bortolotti, Casè, Zonzini, Carboni, Donativi, Benucci and Romani, while Iacone got the lead in GT Cup proceeding Zanardini and Passuti.

Bortolotti managed to get Mapelli's slipstream at lap three, but Audi's driver managed to fend off the attacks. The exciting duel for P2 allowed Pier Guidi to pull away and to reach a seven seconds margin to his followers.

The duel for P4 became red hot too as Casè managed to keep Zonzini behind, while Pezzucchi closed in from the back reaching P8 at lap six. In GT Cup, Iacone and Zanardini were handed a drive through penalty for driving out of track limits at the start and Pipkin inherited the class leadership ahead of Passuti.

At lap eight Zonzini managed to find his way past Casè, but in the heat of the move the two drivers hit each other. The driver from Saint Marin had the worse of it and his race ended with a DNF, while Pezzucchi installed himself in P6 right before the pit lane opened for drivers' change.

When all cars were back on track, Lucchini, who replaced Pier Guidi, got the lead ahead of Schoeffler, Barri, Beretta, Balzan and Ferrara, while in GT Cup Alessandri, who replaced Pipkin, led Galbiati and Mancinelli.

Meanwhile, Balzan started his splendid comeback from P5. The Italian managed to get past Beretta first and then he made a successful move on Barri, reducing his gap to the pace setter Lucchini to 17 seconds.

Ferrara overtook Beretta at lap 17 and installed himself in P5. The driver from Bari launched himself to the attack of Barri, but the driver wearing Imperiale Racing's colors managed to defend his position despite some problems to the floor of his car. The 23 years old from Como had to concede his position to Easy Race's driver at lap 20.

In the meantime, Balzan had managed to reopen the race. He reduced his gap to Schoeffler to only a few hundredths and then found his way past him at lap 21, starting his hunt to the P1 held by Lucchini. The driver from Brescia eased Balzan's task at lap 23, when he spun handing the leadership to MP1 Corse's driver.

Giammaria and Barri kept fighting for P4 until the final stages. At the flag, Balzan got the first win of the season ahead of Schoeffler and Ferrara. Easy Race's driver was then handed a 3 minutes penalty as the team anticipated the drivers' change. Barri got the third step of the podium and proceeded Giammaria, Barri, Beretta, Lucchini, Gagliardini and Bianco. The victory of GT Cup went to Alessandri from Mancinelli to team mate Galbiati.
