It is an all-Lamborghini podium in race-2 of the sixth round of Italian GT Championship held at the Monza Eni Circuit. Zampieri-Altoè (Antonelli Motorsport) got on the top step of the podium proceeding teammates Veglia-Spinelli by 1”162s and Postiglione-Basz (Imperiale Racing) by 11”143s. With two races still to be run in Mugello at the end of the month, the GT3 title fight is getting even more tight as Zampieri-Altoè are the new classification leaders, followed by Stefano Gai (Ferrari 488) and Bar Baruch (Audi R8 LMS), that respectively stand 5 and 11 points short of the top. The victory in the other classes went to Matteo Davenia (GT3 Light, Ferrari 458 Italia) as the title went to Luca Magnoni (Audi R8 LMS Ultra). The victory in Super GT Cup went to Cenedese-Galbiati (Lamborghini Huracan), while Davide Di Benedetto (Porsche 991) repeated the victory scored in race-1 in GT Cup.

Race-2: a win worth GT3 classification lead for Daniel Zampieri and Giacomo Altoè that obtained four laps to the end of the race, thanks to a good team play and a successful overtaking move from the 18 years old from Veneto on his teammate Lorenzo Veglia.

The race was characterized by the penalty handed to Giancarlo Fisichella (Ferrari 488-Scuderia Baldini 27) for jumping the start, which forced former Formula 1 driver, who started from the pole position, to serve a drive-through penalty. Spinelli inherited, therefore, the lead and at the driver change he handed the car over to Veglia, who led it to the second place ahead of another Huracan, that driven by Postiglione-Basz. Despite the 20s time handicap, Imperiale Racing secured a great P3 that adds on to the P2 claimed in race-1.

Stefano Gai and Giancarlo Fisichella ended only fourth at the end of a weekend that started on a high when the pairing secured a double pole position. Back on track after the drive-through, the champion from Rome handed the car over to his co-equiper in P10, but former classification leader could not go beyond the final fourth place. Gai is now chasing the Antonelli Motorsport’s classification leaders at -5 points and leads Bar Baruch (Audi R8 LMS) by 6 points, as the latter pulled a great fifth alongside co-equiper Mattia Drudi. Audi Sport Italia’s pairing, after serving the handicap time due to the victory in race-1, controlled the race and allowing the Israeli to stay in the fight for the GT3 title. Baruch-Drudi proceeded Mancinelli-Fontana (Ferrari 488-Easy Race), Giammaria-Liang (Lamborghini Huracan-Imperiale Racing) and Cenedese-Galbiati (Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo). Antonelli Motorsport’s driver lineup, first of Super GT Cup, run a strong race that saw Galbiati close to the front-runners early on after the bad luck and the electric problems in race-1, and in the closing stages Cenedese found his way past the Chinese driver Xu, who took over from Milos Pavlovic (Bonaldi Motorsport).

The title reserved to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo is virtually decided now. In the closing races to be held in Mugello, Pietro Perolini (Antonelli Motorsport), tenth overall today and second in his class, will only need a handful of points to clinch the title. Davide Di Benedetto (Porsche 991) is also close to the title and he repeated today the victory scored on Saturday. Island Motorsport’s driver, despite a drive-through and a 30s time handicap, ended the race on the top step of the podium ahead of Pisani-Sauto (Porsche 997-Siliprandi Racing) and La Mazza-“Linos” (Porsche 991-Ebimotors).

The GT3 Light title has been awarded two races early to Luca Magnoni. The Nova Race driver shared the Audi R8 LMS Ultra with Alessandro Marchetti and closed race-2 in P3 behind the two Ferrari 458 Italia driven by Matteo Davenia (Easy Race) and Mann-Cressoni (AF Corse).

After the good P3 on Saturday, Comandini-Koebolt (BMW M6 GT3-BMW Team Italia) had to retire early on due to the failure of the gearbox.
