Daniel Zampieri and Giacomo Altoè are the new Italian Champions of class GT3 of the Italian GT 2018 Championship. The title has been given to Antonelli Motorsport’s drivers in Mugello at the end of the closing race held under the rain. The second place was enough to secure the title for the pairing that closed behind the winners Baruch-Treluyer (Audi R8 LMS-Audi Sport Italia) and ahead of Postiglione-Basz (Lamborghini Huracan-Imperiale Racing).

Zampieri and Altoè reached level 159 points, that was 5 points more than Stefano Gai (Ferrari 488) and Bar Baruch, but the driver from Milan secured P3 thanks to the better results.

The Italian titles of the other categories had already been decided yesterday and the second race of Mugello has been a good showcase for Pietro Perolini (Lamborghini Huracan-Antonelli Motorsport) who won Super GT Cup and Davide Di Benedetto, with co equiper Vincenzo Sauto (Porsche 991-Island Motorsport/Duell), that were second in GT Cup behind teammates Merendino-Lazarevic.

Race-2: A well-deserved title went Daniel Zampieri and Giacomo Altoè’s ways at the end of a season that has seen them exchanging on top of GT3 with the Ferrari of Stefano Gai. The closing race of the season has been a triumph for Antonelli Motorsport’s drivers that has been built since qualifying when the pairing secured a double pole position, and that got concrete during a difficult race due to the rain. The freshly 18 years old Altoè kept his cool in the first stint that he led throughout, and Zampieri has been wise and did not oppose any resistance to the attack of an exceptional Benoit Treluyer. The French driver has been the protagonist of Audi’s win, the fourth of the season, as he put in a very strong second stint, recovering despite a great first stint put in by the Israeli Bar Baruch, who kept himself in P3. The twenty points secured in this way allowed Baruch to score as many points as Stefano Gai, but the Ferrari driver obtained more second places and clinched the third place of the classification in this way.

Scuderia Baldini 27 driver had a very tough day. Classification leader after the good race run on Saturday, Gai and co-equiper Giancarlo Fisichella, did not go beyond a seventh place, due to a not-perfect 488 on the wet. The missed chance is the repeat of what happened last year to the Italian driver, but the result rewards his great professionalism nevertheless.

Lamborghini got the third step of the podium with Postiglione-Basz, that led teammates of Imperiale Racing, Giammaria-Bortolotti and Liang-Mapelli, as the young Pole Basz put in a good first stint, covering Altoè’s dominant run on top.

Another Huracan, the one driven by Veglia-Spinelli (Antonelli Motorsport), was sixth and proceeded the BMW M6 GT3 of Comandini-Koebolt (BMW Team Italia) and the Huracan Super Trofeo of the new Italian Champion Pietro Perolini, who led Super GT Cup Antonelli Motorsport’s teammates Sartori-Di Fant.

The ninth place and first of GT Cup went to Merendino-Lazarevic (Porsche 991), that inherited the lead after an excursion due to brake issues of Eugenio Pisani (Porsche 997-Siliprandi Racing), who took the lead at the start. Island Motorsport/Duell’s drivers proceeded teammates Davide Di Benedetto, who is the new Italian GT Cup Champion, and Vincenzo Sauto, while La Mazza-Nicolosi (Porsche 991-Ebimotors) were third.

Piccioli-De Castro (Lamborghini Huracan-Ebimotors) were first in GT3 AM.
