11/05/2012 – The first weekend of the CSAI Karting 2012 Championship started on the rampage at the International circuit of Napoli of Sarno that saw 157 drivers on track for the first round of the season in the four categories 60 Mini, KF3, KF2 and KZ2, setting a very good presence in this championship that is celebrating the 52th edition this year.

Very good the presence in all the categories with a very wide participation of Italian drivers to represent the true expression of the Italian karting. In this first race of the season the highest number of drivers are entered in the 60 Mini, with 49 young drivers between 9 and 12 years of age; 32 drivers will be competing in the KF3 instead, 33 in KF2 and 43 in KZ2.

A lot of the drivers in KZ2 beyond fighting for the Italian title will also be present in Sarno to get ready for the future participation in the World Cup race that will take place on this circuit next 2 September and to meet the requirement of competing in at least three International races to get access to the world championship race.

Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon the first free practice gave the first confirmations on the values on the field, including some initial surprises such as the best time set by Lorenzo Camplese (Intrepid-Tm) in the second session of KZ2. Ithe Italian driver, racing also in the German Formula 3, has been the fastest with two tenths on Alessandro Giulietti (Intrepid-Tm) that set the quickest time in the first session. Solid performance from Loris Spinelli (FK-Tm) at the debut in KZ2 after the victory last year in Sarno in the KF2 World Cup. In this category a lot of drivers can anyway aim to the victory such as Massimo Dante (CKR-Tm), Daniele Quadrana (Kalì Kart-Tm), Marco Pizzuti and Francesco Celenta (Birel-Tm) with the latter a bit on the back of the pack for now.

In KF2 Moretti brothers (Kosmic-Tm), Marco and Andrea, have been the fastest but it is already clear that the two drivers from Milan will have to compete with Riccardo Cinti (Tony Kart-Vortex), Matteo Gasparrini (Tony Kart-Vortex), the two color bearers of Birel Gianni Vigorito and Nicolò Balsamo and Federico Pezzolla (Kosmic-Tm).

In KF3 the couple of Baby Race was mainly in evidence as Luigi Angelillo and Alessio Lorandi, both on Tony Kart-Vortex led the pack. Very good performance from Lorenzo Giannoni (Tony Kart-Tm) and the Romanian Marcu Dionisios (Top Kart-Parilla).

The drivers competing in the 60 Mini will will start racing on Saturday morning and the fight is certainly going to be very tight on the tenths of seconds.

In Sarno the Prodriver category will also be on track in a race that will not be valid for the championship.

IN TV. The final 1 of the morning will be live on Nuvolari (Sky and freeview) on Sunday 13 May. Specials will be broadcast next week on RAI Sport, Sportitalia and 60 other local networks spanning the whole Italian territory.
