29/07/2012 – Boiling hot weather did not offer breaks throughout the weekend at the Circuit of Siena that staged the third round of the CSAI Karting Italian Championship promoted by ACI-CSAI and ACI Sport. 164 drivers have been competing in this central round of the season that will be followed by the last two rounds scheduled for next 9 September in Castelletto di Branduzzo (Pavia) and 30 September in Ortona (Chieti).

On the Tuscany track the best Italian drivers competed in categories KZ2, KF2, KF3, 60 Mini and 60 Baby and 26 more drivers took part in the Prodriver category for the City of Siena Trophy that witnessed the wins of Alessandro Pellizzari (Kalì-Kart-Tm) in AM and Enrico Bernardotto (Maranello-Tm) in PRO.

IN KF2 PEZZOLLA RULED THE WEEKEND. The absolute protagonist of the weekend of KF2 has been Federico Pezzolla (Kosmic-Tm), who started slowly with the back places in free practice of the eve, grew in the qualifying heats up to the second place of race one and he win of race two after a good series of overtaking.
The Moretti brothers (also on Kosmic-Tm) were also on the spotlight, with Marco winning race-1 and Andrea and Marco respectively behind Pezzolla in race-2. Very good performance also for the other protagonist of the championship at Birel, Gianni Vigorito, who scored a podium in race one at the end of a good recover and an eighth place in race two. To be highlighted was also the good fifth place obtained by Andrea Russo (Kosmic-Vortex) in race two, behind a very good Roberto Manduchi (Italcorse-Parilla).

In race two Simone Brenna (TB Kart-Tm) and Nicola Gnudi (CKR-Tm), respectively 8. and 7. in race-1 took advantage of the top eight grid inversion stated by the regulations and ended on the top two steps of the podium, leading Pastacaldi, that was again among the protagonists, Massimo Mazzali (Jesolo Tm) and Alessandro Giulietti (Intrepid-Tm). At the end of the race, stewards excluded Brenna from the classification due to an irregularity to his engine, awarding Gnudi with his first win of the season. The driver from Brescia obtained a victory in race one (that awards the highest number of points) and a second place in race two where he ended behind the quite rightly home hero Danilo Albanese (Energy-Tm). Very good was also the second place obtained by Giulio Tommasin (Zanardi-Parilla) in race one even if he was later on forced to the back in race two due to a contact with a rival.
In race-1 behind Lorandi ended Tommasin and Albanese, the former classification leader Francesco Iacovacci (Tony Kart-Tm), and then Vincenzo Paparo driving for Baby Race as Lorandi.

GAROFANO ATTACKING LEONARDO LORANDI IN THE MINI. The first final of the 60 Mini was won by Remigio Garofano (Top Kart-Lke), who is more and more at ease in this category despite the strong bunch of rivals of Baby Race that on the side of Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart-Lke) now also has the Canadian with Italian license lAntonio Serravalle, winner today of race-2.

Garofano was followed in race-1 by the American (with Italian license) Logan Sargeant (Tony Kart-Lke) of Ward Racing and Lorandi. 60 BABY SUB-JUDICE. The 60 Baby, category reserved to kids aged between 8 and 9, is still sub-judice due to an appeal presented by the parents of Giuseppe Fusco (Top Kart-Lke) against the technical disqualification issued against the young driver from Naples due to an irregularity on his kart. Fusco dominated the two qualifying heats and ended third both finals. The first final was won by Salvatore Corso (Top Kart-Lke) ahead of Luigi Coluccio (Top Kart-Parilla), while Antonio Incarnato (Top Kart-Comer) won race two ahead of Corso. INCIDENTS AND DISQUALIFICATIONS. After the two qualifying heats of Saturday, several drivers, among which some excellent protagonists too, did not make it to the double final of Sunday for several reasons. Luca Corberi, third in KF3, could not take part in the races due to a race incident in one of the heats, while other drivers were disqualified by Stewards as in the case of the Japanese Fuma Horio (second in KF2), Matteo Gasparrini and Alessandro Pandoli in KF2, and Luigi Del Vecchio in KZ2. All these drivers were disqualified due to race responsibilities or due to their behaviour in the paddock.
On Sunday Stewards ruled out of the competition Brenna (KZ2), Di Braccio (KZ2) and De Filippis (Mini), then Taglianetti (Baby) and Fusco (Mini, under appeal) were disqualified from the race.
