Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi, Peugeot 208 R5 T16, lead day one of the 98th Targa Florio

Second place to the Gpl powered Ford Fiesta R5 of Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai. Umberto Scandola and Guido D'Amore, Skoda Fabia Super 2000, follow in third.

Campofelice di Roccella (PA) 9 May - Day one of the 98th Targa Florio, the third round of the Italian Rally 2014 Championship -- race organized by AC Palermo with the direct support of Automobile Club of Italy -- ended this evening in Piazza Duomo of Termini. The Tuscan driver Paolo Andreucci, and his navigator Anna Andreussi, on the Peugeot 208 R5 T16 are currently leading the way after day one. Andreucci got the lead since the initial stage but has always been followed closely by the Gpl powered Ford Fiesta R5 driven by Giandomenico Basso, with the Tuscan Lorenzo Granai at the notes. The two are currently split by 15"3s.

Behind them the battle for third has been quite tough involving Umberto Scandola, Skoda Fabia S2000, Simone Campedelli, Ford Fiesta R5, andAndrea Nucita, Peugeot 207 Super 2000. At the end of the day the third place has been secured by Umberto Scandola who led Andrea Nucita, while Campedelli, slowed down by a puncture in the last timed stage ended fifth.

Good race also for Alessandro Perico, on Peugeot 207 Super 2000, and for Marco Runfola, also on Peugeot 207 Super 2000. The eighth place was obtained by the first of the Junior classification, that is Stefano Albertini, Peugeot 208 R2. The first of the Italian Production Championship is currently held by Ivan Ferrarotti, Renault New Clio R3.

Meanwhile, the racers of the Suzuki Rally Trophy ended their effort. The victory went to the driver from Cuneo Michel Tassone, with Daniele Michi at the notes. The pair proceeded the two Tuscans Andrea Iacconi and Omar Barsottelli.

The second and decisive day will follow tomorrow unfolding in a total of 281.39 km featuring 6 stages for 81.30 timed km. The start is set from Termini Imerese's Piazza Duomo at 7.45 (local time) while the arrive is going to be in Campofelice di Roccella's Piazza Garibaldi at 16.30.
