Cingoli (Macerata), 29 May 2016 – Umberto Scandola confirmed himself as king of the gravel, together with Guido D'Amore, on Skoda Fabia R5. He won the race for the fourth time in a row. This has also been a fair and square victory even though Simone Campedelli, Ford Fiesta R5 Gpl, and Denis Colombini, also on Skoda Fabia R5 tried to make his life more difficult.
The first was at the debut on the GPL powered Fiesta run by Orange 1 Racing prepared by Brc and impressed for the how easily he managed to post very quick times. The second, from St Marin and not fighting for the Italian Championship, confirmed his great skills on the gravel.
Right at the feet of the podium, the other two contenders of the Italian title: Giandomenico Basso on Ford Fiesta R5 run by BRC, petrol powered, and Paolo Andreucci, Peugeot 208 T16. Basso was certainly penalized by the peculiar tactic of BRC to field him on a card different from that normally employed for the Italian Rally Championship races to hand it over to Campedelli. He did not put in an exciting performance running below his possibilities. The Tuscan several times Italian champion was penalized by being first on both days, having to do a lot of road cleaning for the others, but also confirmed not to be at ease in this race.
Regarding the absolute classification, Andreucci is still leading as only Umberto Scandola ended the rally with some hopes to close in on the Tuscan driver.
The race organized by Prs Group was also valid for the Italian Rally Junior Championship, for the 2WD and for the Gravel Trophy.
Among the youngest, Giuseppe Testa had an extraordinary weekend together with Daniele Mangiarotti on the works Peugeot 208 R2. The Italian won both days securing the classification lead, getting past the Sicilian Marco Pollara, who had an incident that did not leave him physical consequences.
In the 2WD, Luca Panzani secured a double win on a Citroen Ds3 R2. He therefore continued a good battle with Ivan Ferrarotti and his Renault Clio. In the Gravel Trophy, Federico della Casa and Bernardi have been the main actors on the 208 R2, that had to retire in the second day.
In the second round of the Rally Gravel Trophy, Federico Della Casa dominated on Ford run by A Style Team. The Swiss proceeded Daniele Ceccoli, Skoda Fabia Super 2000, and Nicolò Marchioro, Peugeot 207 Super 2000. Thanks to this result, Ceccoli and Piercarlo Capolongo get the lead of the classification on the Skoda. Mauro Trentin, with Alice De Marco at the notes, were hit by bad luck and had to retire after sliding out of the road early into the race. Luigi Ricci also had a series of problems on his Subaru Impreza STI and ended at the back of the charts.
In the Italian R1 championship and Suzuki Rally Trophy the Swift R1B put in a great battle, as Lorenzo Coppe ended on top with Roberto Simioni. They have been great winners among the Under 25 winning the second round and taking the lead of the absolute classification, ahead of Jacopo Lucarelli and of the expert Claudio Vallino.
Jacopo Trevisani and Matteo Romano kept the lead of the Twingo R2 Gravel trophy, despite the great day two run by Giacomo Matteuzzi.
