Imola 2017: Race 2 highlights

Closer and closer to Imola 2018 appointment next weekend, let us see results and highlights of race 2 from last year.

Strong overnight rain meant that the track was unmanageable when drivers arrived at Imola this morning: Race 2 of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth was therefore delayed from 8:15 to 10:50 and reduced from 28 '+ 1 lap to 21' + 1 lap. The rain, though less intense, still characterized the race, which started - for safety reasons - behind the Safety Car, which led the race group for 4 laps, allowing the drivers to get confident with the slippery surface. By the fifth lap, the Dutchman Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport) had built a great lead. He won by more than 7 seconds ahead of the Estonian Juri Vips (Prema Power Team), who did did well to comeback seventh position and able to record the best lap of the race (2’02”445) on at the last lap. Third was the Indian Kush Maini, who was overtaken by Vips during the last lap.

Another nice comeback from the New Zealander Marcus Armstrong (Prema Power Team), from 8th to 4th. Behind him, was the Italian Lorenzo Colombo (Bhaitech), who, due to a slight off in the sandtrap, saw Armstrong take the position during the penultimate lap. From sixth to the tenth position, they finished as such; the German Lirim Zendeli (BWT Muecke Motorsport), the Italian Lorandi (Bhaitech) and his teammate, Venezuelan Sebastian Fernandez, the Russian Artem Petrov (DR Formula) and the Argentine Giorgio Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport).

Lorandi winsn the Rookie Trophy, ahead of Carrara and the Brazilian Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team).
