40 drivers ready for Vallelunga, the fourth round of the Italian F.4 Championship certified by FIA, over the weekend of 3 July. The great success proven by the number of drivers taking part in the event, coming from 24 different countries, lined up on the track by 15 teams, crowns the work of ACI Sport and WSK Promotion in making the Italian F.4 series the main reference on the international scene.
On this occasion will be used the new format developed by the organisation, designed to allow drivers to compete with a number of cars greater than the track capacity. A total of 4 races will be held over the weekend: 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. In this way, all participants will be able to race in the qualifying races, divided into 3 groups (A, B, C). At the end of the three races, in which each group will face the others, a fictitious general classification will be developed by adding up the scores of each driver. The classification of the 3 races will be used to identify the drivers who will be eligible for the fourth race. Full details of the format can be found in the Sporting Regulations.
The fourth round of the Championship will start on Thursday 30 June, with competitors having the opportunity to take to the track in two long collective test sessions, in the morning from 9.00 to 13.00, then again in the afternoon from 14.00 to 18.00. Then on Friday, free practices (9.00-9.40 and 13.10-13.50) and, in the evening, official practices (18.20-18.40 for drivers assigned to series 1; 18.50-19.10 for drivers assigned to series 2). Saturday race 1 at 11.40 for groups A and B, race 2 at 17.00 with on track groups B and C. On Sunday race 3 at 9.30 for groups C and A, then race 4 with qualified drivers will start at 14.00.
At the Roman circuit there will be two Prema Racing drivers at the top of the classification: Rafael Camara, Ferrari Driver Academy, in the lead with only three points over Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Junior Mercedes, author of 3 wins in the 3 races at Spa-Francorchamps. The driver from Bologna was unstoppable in the last two rounds of the Championship: at Vallelunga he will try to overturn the classification and propose himself as the new leader. Third is the Irishman of US Racing, Alexandre Dunne. Dunne had brought home the biggest haul in the first round of 2022 at Imola, stepping three times onto the podium, on all the different steps; he then celebrated again with champagne in Belgium, in race 2 last weekend. In the Rookie class the first two positions remain unchanged, third is Prema Racing driver James Wharton (Ferrari Driver Academy), closely followed by his teammate Charlie Wurz and the Norwegian of Van Amersfoort Racing, Martinus Stenshorne. In the women's clash, Maya Weug, Ferrari Driver Academy from the Iron Dames team leads over Victoria Blokhina, driver from PHM Racing.
Among the new entries who will join the Italian F.4 on the occasion of the round at the Capital's racetrack named after Piero Taruffi, Adam Fitzgerald, Irishman from County Galway, will flank Frederik Lund with the team R-ace GP. Another exordium with the Brazilian driver Neto Nelson, racing with CRAM Motorsport. Nicola Lacorte will be present with the team Iron Lynx for Thursday’s test in order to take part to the Italian F.4 later on.
