The combined times from the three official qualifying sessions allow the VSR team to start from the pole position in tomorrow's race, alongside Fisichella-Leclerc-Mosca (Ferrari 296 GT3), who set the second-fastest time. In the GT Cup, the provisional pole goes to Demarchi-Di Mare-Patrinicola (Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo2).
Riccardo Cazzaniga, Alberto Di Folco, and Edoardo Liberati (Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2) will start from pole position in the 3rd round of the Italian GT Endurance Championship, taking place at the Imola circuit. The VSR team, currently second in the provisional standings, secured the fastest time (5’02.174) by combining the times from the three qualifying sessions. Therefore, in tomorrow's 3-hour race, the Lamborghini drivers will start from the pole, with Fisichella-Leclerc-Mosca (Ferrari 296 GT3-Scuderia Baldini), who set the second-fastest time (5’02.854), alongside them.
The three 15-minute sessions were fiercely contested. In the first session, Liberati posted the second-fastest time, just behind Mosca, who secured the top spot by only 16 thousandths with a time of 1’40.823. Di Folco was unbeatable in the second session with a "best lap" of 1’40.585. In the third session, which saw Philippe Denes (BMW M4 GT3) post the fastest time, Cazzaniga set the sixth-best time (1’40.691), allowing the VSR team to claim pole position and the bonus point in the 2024 standings.
Jelmini-Frassineti (Honda NSX GT3-Nova Race) and Sandrucci-Bencivenni-Ferrari (Mercedes AMG GT3-Antonelli Motorsport) will line up on the second row with times of 5’03.642 and 5’04.039, respectively. Behind them are Mazzola-Delli Guanti-Aka in the Audi R8 LMS (tresor-Audi Sport Italia) with a time of 5’04.299, who were hampered by a rear-right tyre issue in the third stint, and the Ferrari 296 GT3 (AF Corse) of Ponzio-Gai-Mac (5’04.359). The fourth row will feature the second Audi of Moncini-Cola-Van Berlo (5’04.557) and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 (Imperiale Racing) of Deledda-Gilardoni-De Wilde (5’04.686).
In the GT Cup class, Demarchi-Di Mare-Patrinicola (Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo2) posted the best time in the PRO-AM 1st Division with 5’15.358. At the same time, D’Auria-Clementi Pisani-Bolger (Lamborghini Huracan ST Evo2-HC Racing Division) clocked the best lap in the AM category with a time of 5’17.487.
In the 2nd Division, reserved for Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, Berton-Laurini-Peroni (Racevent) were fastest in the PRO-AM with a time of 5’15.422, and Knez-Fontana-Hofmann set the best lap in the AM category with 5’18.993.
Tomorrow at 14:45, the 3-hour race will begin. According to the 2024 regulations, points will be awarded at the 100-minute mark, in addition to the final points at the checkered flag. The race will be broadcast live on Acisport TV (Sky 228), streamed on the official website and championship social media channels, with a delayed broadcast on RAISPORT (DT 58) on Monday, September 9, from 20:00 to 23:00.
