On track racing heading towards the restart

Motorsport is about to start again with Formula Regional and the Italian karting and track championships. The new calendar and the update of the protocol for testing and training is now ready

The moment that all motorsport fans have been waiting for a long time is approaching: the Italian motorsport is about to restart. This is a first important step for ACI Sport, the Federation for Motorsport entrusted by Automobile Club d’Italia that has been working around the clock since the beginning of the epidemic to support National Motorsport duly following the regulations.

The Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA will restart the season and will be followed by the Italian ACI Karting Championship and Italian Championships part of the ACI Racing Weekend – Grand Turing, Italian F4 Championship, TCR Italy, TCR DSG Endurance, Sports Prototypes. The calendar for collective testing of the Formula Regional and Formula 4 has also been defined.

All these appointments will follow the medical protocol (updated on May, 18th, 2020 and reported below) that has recently been approved by C.O.N.I.

INDIVIDUAL TRAINING/OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES FOR TESTING

PREMISE

On May 4th 2020, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Sports Office published the Guidelines following art. 1 letter f) and g) of the Decree-Law dated April 26th 2020 on the modalities to perform training for individual sports.

The Guidelines – that are a revision of the document “Sport restarts in safety” by CONI and Politecnico di Torino – provide general indications and actions to restart individual sports and have to be implemented in a specific way for each discipline as defined by the Sporting Federation ACI.

The following document explains all the stages of testing and the measures to follow in accordance with the Guidelines defined by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Sports Office.

 

WHO CAN TAKE PART IN INDIVIDUAL TRAINING/TESTING

Professional and non-professional athletes recognized by CONI, CIP and Sporting Federation ahead of their participation in the Olympic Games and/or to National/International events. In the meeting held on April 28th, ACI decided that entitled drivers can be defined as are those holding a sporting licence valid for 2020 and intend to take part in races of a National or International championship.

 

VENUES FOR INDIVIDUAL TRAINING/TESTING

Individual training/testing can take place in circuits (autodromes, karting circuits and mini-tracks) homologated by ACI that respect the following dispositions.

 

HOW INDIVIDUAL TRAINING/TESTING MUST BE ORGANIZED

In the following, all the measures to be adopted for individual training/testing are described. All sporting operators (mechanics, engineers, staff) must wear face masks at all times, respect social distances and wear protective gloves. The same safety measures will have to be followed also by drivers outside of the testing session. The number of vehicles allowed simultaneously depending on the homologation Grade of Circuits/Kartodromes based on shifts and sessions defined by Organizers follows:
