The Targa Florio Classica 2022 has lived its Leg 2 along the streets of Madonie, always related to the oldest car race of the world, among Palermo, Collesano, Petralia, Campofelice di Roccella, Cefalù, Gratteri, Lascari and Termini Imerese: the headquarter of the event until 1960s, with the Start of the timed stage in front of the Grand Hotel delle Terme. The last race of the Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi has ended and the Champions and winners of the Targa Florio Classica 2022 will be announced tomorrow, Sunday 16th October.
Tomorrow will be the last day of the even organized by AC Palermo with the support of Automobile Club D’Italia and ACI Storico, that will be giving the “Trofeo 100 Passi”, in honor of the legality and sacrifice of Peppino Impastato, the journalist killed by the mafia for his statements against Cosa Nostra. At the beginning of the day, some crews and ACI authorities will honor Judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo and the armed escort with a visit to the "Giardino della Memoria" in Capaci, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the vile mafia attack that killed them.
The Sunday leg of the Targa Florio Classica and Ferrari Tribute to Targa Florio 2022 will start as usual from the Museo Storico dei Motori e dei Meccanismi at the University of Palermo, headquarter of the event. The crews in the extraordinary Ferraris and in the vintage cars of exceptional historical and sporting value will drive towards the Palermo hinterland to Altofonte, then Borgetto, Partinico, Terrasini and Cinisi, a town in whose historic center further precision stages will take place. After the Finish at the University of Palermo, the award ceremony will be near Terrasini at the Tenuta Cala Muletti.
Uncertain challenges up to the end among the best names in Italian regularity, with the drivers from Campobello di Mazara who became protagonists in the race standings. A lot of alternation at the first places of the standings between Angelo Accardo and Filippo Becchina in the Fiat 508 C, against the other 508 Cs of fellow citizens Mario Passanante and Dario Moretti, committed to solving mechanical problems, then Francesco and Giuseppe Di Pietra. The latter had some difficulties on the track and in contends for the Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi in which the position in the race of the talented Gianmario Fontanella and Annamaria Covelli in the Lancia Aprilia (1939) is decisive for the Championship. Enzo Ciravolo and Francesco Messina in the Fiat 508 C, like Roberto Crugnola and Francesco Mosconi, or Alberto Aliverti and Stefano Valente in the BMW 328 Roadster, as well as Sergio Sisti and Anna Gualandi (also in the Lancia Aprilia), were all candidates for the first place.
Great challenges between the Prancing Horse cars that competed for the Ferrari Tribute to Targa Florio, where Fabio Vergamini and Anna Maria Fabrizi in the 2015 Ferrari 488 GTB took advantage with their precision. But all the wonderful super cars of Maranello have impressed the large and enthusiastic public present at every stage of the event.
