A total of 39 cars have been entered to the Italian GT Championship that will begin this coming weekend at the circuit of Vallelunga.

This is a real record to open the 13th edition of the Italian series that will have 20 cars of class GT3 on track and 19 of GT Cup. A total of eight brands of the likes of Audi, BMW, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes and Porsche will make it to the track, as will do more than 75 drivers that will challenge each other for the three Italian titles and the three National Trophies and two ACI Cups.

The car to be beaten in class GT3 is going to be the Ferrari 458 Italia of Scuderia Baldini 27 that will line up the reigning champion Lorenzo Casè and the new entry Stefano Gattuso, while in GT Cup last year's winner, the Porsche 997 of Passuti-Antonelli, will have to fend off the attacks moved by a strong lot of Ferrari 458 Italia and Lamborghini Gallardo. The entry list is rounded up by four brand new Lamborghini Huracan, that will score points valid for the National Lamborghini Huracan Cup.

The entry list of GT3 is quite prestigious in terms of drivers, teams and cars. The Ferrari lot, led by Casè-Gattuso (Scuderia Baldini 27), will be composed by the 458 Italias of Mugelli-Di Amato (MP1 Corse), Ferrara-Magli (Easy Race), Frassineti-Beretta (Ombra Racing), Galassi-Rizzuto and Bontempelli-Gai (Team Malucelli), Lucchini-Venturi (BMS-Scuderia Italia) and Schirò-Berton (Villorba Corse).

Two Audi R8 LMS will be fielded by Audi Sport Italia for Capello-Zonzini and Mapelli-Amici, while as many BMW Z4 of ROAL Motorsport will also be back to the Italian series with Comandini-Gagliardini and Rangoni-Mulacchiè at the wheel. Two Porsche GT3R will be lined up by Autorlando (Camathias-Calamia) and Ebimotors for the former Italian champion Vito Postiglione who will share the wheel with Vincenzo Donativi.

Lamborghini doubled its presence as compared to 2014, as the challenger driven by Bortolotti-Viberti, will be joined by another Gallardo driven by Babini-Ceccato (Imperiale Racing). Mercedes will be represented by the SLS of the Portuguese team Sports&You to be driven by Mora-Wright, while Solaris Motorsport will take on track the Corvette  Z06 with Sini-Costantini.

Racing Studios, the new team of Thomas Biagi, will be a new entry lining up team principal at the wheel of one of the two McLaren MP4-12C. The Bolognese driver will share the wheel with Filippo Francioni, while the second car will be driven by Daniel Mancinelli and Ferdinando Geri.

Strong entry list also for GT Cup that will live again the duel Porsche-Ferrari-Lamborghini. The 997 of Passuti-Antonelli (Antonelli Motorsport) and those of Maino-Selva, Venerosi-Baccani (Ebimotors), of Matteo and Federico Zangari (Ghinzani-Arco Motorsport), Bodega-De Castro (Drive Technology), Luca and Nicola Pastorelli (Krypton Motorsport) and that of Antonio Montruccoli (Bellspeed Motorsport) will have to face the competition of the 458 Challenge Evo and of the Gallardo Super Trofeo.

Among the Ferraris, Team Pellin will line up Deodati-Goldstein and Carboni-Romani, cars that will be joined by that of Renato Di Amato (Secci Team) and Del Prete-Caso (Scuderia Victoria), while the cars from Sant'Agata Bolognese will be driven by Valori-Cecchi (Eurotech Engineering), Zanardini-Perel (Bonaldi Motorsport), Durante-Comi and Monfardini-Bianco (Imperiale Racing).

The national Cup Lamborghini Huracan will have four cars on track. Massimo Mantovani and Ermanno Dioniso will drive the two cars lined up by Antonelli Motorsport, Tanca-Zaugg will be at the wheel of the Huracan run by Raton Racing, while Team Bonaldi is about to disclose its drivers.

Considering the high number of entered lineups, the programme of Vallelunga will have separate races for the two classes. Race-1 of GT Cup will begin on Saturday at 15 and will be followed by that of class GT3 (at 16,10), while both race-2s will take place on Sunday at 10,45 (GT Cup) and 12,10 (GT3).

TV coverage of the racing weekend will be granted by Raisport2 (freeview and SKY) with the delayed broadcast of race-1 (on Saturday at 22,30) and the live coverage of GT3 race-2, while the two races of GT Cup will go live on AutomotoTV (SKY channel 148).
