After the first two testing days, the Italian ACI-CSAI Karting protagonists got serious today at the International Circuit La Conca with qualifying and Saturday's heats to define the starting grids of the finals to be held on Sunday.

Among the140 drivers on track, Italians have been the most numerous in the 4 categories KZ2, KF2, KF3 and 60 Mini, but also several foreign drivers are also of the starting lot to represent 13 different countries. Alongside Italy, drivers from all over Europe made it to the start of Muro Leccese (Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Czech Republic), but also from United States, Brazil, Venezuela, Canada and even Indonesia.

KZ2 has been particularly exciting with 51 drivers on track. The pole position went to Francesco Celenta (Energy-TM) who has been one of the protagonists of the past edition of the championship, but Luca Tilloca (Art-Modena) won the first heat from Lorenzo Camplese (Maranello-TM) to Flavio Sani (Birel-TM), while Celenta secured the win from Camplese to Paolo Ippolito (Birel-TM) in the second one. The first counter-charge came in the third heat that was won by Marco Zanchetta (Maranello-TM) from Celenta to the winner of the most recent Italian Championships, Alessandro Giulietti (Intrepid-TM), while the Spaniard Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG-Maxter), was fourth at the end of a great comeback race.

The ruler in KF2's qualifying has been Marco Maestranzi (Top Kart-TM), who set the pace in qualifying and then won both heats. In the first heat Maestranzi topped the Venezuelan Sidney Gomez (CRG-TM), while in the second he proceeded Adriano Albano (Tony Kart-TM).

KF3 saw Remigio Garofano (Tony Kart-LKE) quickest in qualifying and then winner of the first heat from Davide Lombardo (Exprit-Vortex) to Lorenzo Travisanutto (PCR-TM). The American Devlin Defrancesco (Tony Kart-Vortex), third in the recent European Championship, managed to clinch the second place behind Garofano in heat two, while Travisanutto crossed the line in third again.

Among the 52 drivers at the start, team Gamoto came to the fore in qualifying with a solid one-two-three in the heats with Dennis Hauger, Leonardo Marseglia and Muizzuddin, all on CRG-LKE. The pole position went to Hauger who also won the second heat, while Giuseppe Fusco (Lenzo-LKE) managed to win the sprint to the line of heat one proceeding Muizzuddin.
