A young Italian driver, Leonardo Caglioni, in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy

Italy will be represented by the young Leonardo Caglioni at the three races of the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy. First round scheduled for May 14th in Genk (Belgium).

Leonardo Caglioni is the young Italian driver chosen by ACI Sport to take part in the important International series CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy.

Leonardo Caglioni, just turned 14 from Bergamo, di Bergamo, despite his young age has a good experience in karting. In 2014 he won the International Easykart 60cc title and in 2016 he has been fighting for the Italian 60 Mini title ending second. Leonardo made his debut in Junior this year at the Rok Area North Trophy taking two victories.

The Karting Academy Trophy is a single make International series run in three events promoted by CIK-FIA since 2010 to allow a fair challenge among the young talents selected by the national ASNs from all over the world. The Trophy enjoys the technical support by OTK Kart Group since last year, uses Exprit chassis and Vortex engines of category OK-Junior. The first of the three rounds of 2017 will take place in the weekend 12-14 May in Belgium at Genk in a joint event with the KZ and KZ2 European Championship. The second round will take place in Le Mans (France) next July 2nd together with the OK, OK-Junior and KZ2 European Championship, while the third and closing race will be housed by the Mika Salo Circuit in Alaharma (Finland) on July 23rd alongside the OK and OK-Junior European Championship.

The list of drivers selected for the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy 2017 features 51 drivers aged from 12 to 14, coming from 39 countries representing 5 continents. The winner of the Trophy will have a free entry to the CIK-FIA Junior World Championship that will take place next September 29th at the PF International Circuit in England.
