Euro 4 Championship grand finale is ready to start at Barcelona

The third and final round of the new series promoted by ACI Sport and WSK Promotion will award double points, making for an exciting finale on the Catalan track

 Everything is set for the grand finale of the Euro 4 Championship. The first season of the new Formula 4 series promoted by ACI Sport and WSK Promotion will come to a close this weekend, from October 20th to 22nd, in Barcelona. The challenge on the track is intense for drivers from 15 different nations, with 3 races that will award double points thanks to the coefficient 2 of the final round. To conclude the 2023 season, Prema Racing will field the British Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad and the American McLaren junior Ugo Ugochukwu, who are, at the same time, engaged in an internal battle for the top spot in the driver standings. Also racing under the colors of the Grisignano di Zocco Team will be 3 Ferrari Driver Academy drivers: Australian James Wharton, Finnish Tuukka Taponen, and Belgian-Brazilian driver Aurelia Nobels. Completing Prema Racing's lineup will be Emirati Rashid Al Dhaheri, Italian driver Nicola Lacorte, and Stratford-upon-Avon's Freddie Slater.

Van Amersfoort Racing will see Italian ace Brando Badoer on the track, alongside his fellow national driver Giacomo Pedrini, Peruvian driver Rafael Modonese, Danish racer Frederick Lund, and newcomer Lin Hodenius. Hodenius, a Limburg native from the Netherlands, has already showcased his skills this year in Spanish Formula 4 and has a successful experiences in GT racing in his career.

US Racing will field a quartet, with the Team led by Gerhard Ungar and Ralf Schumacher, featuring Australian Gianmarco Pradel, Maltese-Filipino driver Zachary David, American Akshay Bohra, and Chinese racer Ruiqi Liu.

AKM Motorsport, a family-run team led by Andrea Kimi and Marco Antonelli, will have Swiss driver Tina Hausmann and Mexican Diego De La Torre on the Spanish track. Finally, there's a debut on the Team front. Participating in the final round of the Euro 4 Championship is Team Argenti Motorsport. The English Team, already active in karting and the national Formula 4 series in the UK, will be represented by the Chinese driver Yuanpu Cui. Cui, born in 2008, is making his debut in the series, after his successful karting career has caught the attention of Mercedes, leading to his inclusion in their youth program starting from 2021.

Everything is set for the round that will make history, crowning the first Champion of the series.

The final standings have been confirmed, after the initial appeal noticed following the developments of the Monza round was withdrawn. The current situation sees Arvid Lindblad leading with 86 points and a narrow 3-point lead over the first runner-up. Second in the standings is his teammate Ugo Ugochukwu, with 83 points. The competition remains open for all, thanks to the double coefficient of the final round, which can award up to a maximum of 150 points to a single driver.

 

COMPLETE STANDINGS

 

The weekend's schedule includes the first free practice session on Friday, October 20th, on the track from 9:39 to 10:19. Following that, a second 40-minute free practice session will take place from 14:55 to 15:35. On Saturday, October 21st, morning qualifying sessions, divided into two 15-minute sessions with a 10-minute pitlane stop in between, will start at 9:00 and end at 9:40. Also on Saturday, the first race of the weekend, lasting 30 minutes + 1 lap, will begin at 12:40. On Sunday, October 22nd, Race 2 will start at 11:20 (30 minutes + 1 lap), followed by the race that will conclude the games for the first edition of the Euro 4 Championship, Race 3 (30 minutes + 1 lap), starting at 16:30.
