The 1st stage of the 30th Rally Costa Smeralda on schedule tomorrow

05/05/2011 – The opening ceremony in Arzachena today at 18 (GMT+2) will begin the third round of the Italian Rally Championship and the Second Trophy Rally Terra.

The big challenge for the success in the 30th Rally Costa Smeralda, race organized by Great Events Sardinia's staff led by Carmelo Mereu, will start tomorrow instead on the Sardinia dirt roads.

All the protagonists of the CSAI series will be present. Paolo Andreucci, at the wheel of his Peugeot 207 S2000 with Anna Andreussi reading the notes, will try to confirm his leadership but on the fascinating and treacherous Sardinia's roads he will have to face his rivals. Among the four closest opponents Luca Rossetti, official Abarth driver sided by Matteo Chiarcossi on Grande Punto, that proved to be not that far away from Andreucci. Elwis Chentre, on Peugeot 207 Super 2000 will challenge him too even if in the first two rounds of the championship he did not manage to harvest all what expressed in the race. Umberto Scandola, on Ford Fiesta Super 2000 and Alessandro Perico on a Peugeot 207 Super 2000 too will also be there.

The best drivers racing for the Rally Terra Trophy will also aim at the podium; particularly, the Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen, winner of the first race at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia and the Italian Andrea Aghini, on Peugeot 207 Super 2000, who finished the Rally dell´Adritaico at his back.

Certainly under the spotlight will also be Giuseppe Dettori, on Ford Fiesta Super 2000, in great evidence among drivers from Sardinia and currently fourth in the Rally Terra Trophy, right in front of him is the good Daniele Battistini who is also awaited as a protagonist in Sardinia at the wheel of his Peugeot 207 S2000.
Three drivers will also fight for the victory in the Italian Production Championship, all at the wheel of a Mitsubsihi Lancer, they are: Maurizio Angrisani, Fabio Gianfico and Massimiliano Rendina.

All entered crews completed verifications and are now ready for the Opening Ceremony scheduled for 18.00 (GMT+2) in Arzachena. Day one of the 30th Rally Costa Smeralda will start tomorrow and will articulate in four stages in the province of Oristano right in the middle of the island. At 8.25, the cars will leave Olbia heading "Lago Omodeo", the first stage 10,21 Km long starting at 10.58; at 11.50 it will be the turn of the "Monte Grighini Nord" a 21,32 Km long stage followed at 12.51 by the "Alta Marmilla" and its 14,34 Km. At 13.34 the "Monte Grighini Sud" of 19,66 Km will end the stages.

A 20' reordering will follow in Siamanna, right before moving again to Olbia for the 45' minutes assistance park starting at 19.30.

Day one will feature 426,28 Km, 65,53 of which being chrono stages.

Saturday 7 May will be the final day of the Sardinian race of C.I.R, starting at 10.55 and ending at 19.45 in Olbia after four stages spanning a total of 71,53 Km and 199,37 Km transfer. The live coverage of the "Braniatogghiu" stage will begin at 11.30 on Italian TV channel Rai Sport 2.
