Sanremo, 4 April 2014. While waiting for two night stages to close day one, the 56th Rallye Sanremo already gave some important verdicts. After the first four classic stages of Vignai, Apricale , Bivio Coldirodi and Bignone, Giandomenico Basso and Mitia Dotta are leading the pack in the GPL powered Ford Fiesta R5. The Skoda Fabia Super 2000 driven by Umberto Scandola with Guido D'Amore at the notes follows. Headline news of the day were made by Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi though as they have been stopped due to an engine problem on their new Peugeot 208 R5 Turbo 16. A heavy leak in the cooling system of the car due to a failure made the Tuscan driver retire after 55 race finishes in a row. The third place is currently occupied by Andrea Nucita, Peugeot 207 Super 2000, who is confirming all his qualities.

The race is still long though. The two stages of Vignai (17.97km) and the long and dreadful Ronde of 40km are still to be run tonight. Day two will start tomorrow at 7.30 (local time) with finish line set in Via Adolfo Rava at 19.54. Six more stages are on schedule for day 2 for a total of 121 timed km.
