64°Rallye Sanremo Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi, Peugeot 208 T16 R5 end day one on top

The Tuscan driver and the co-driver from Friuli lead the classification after the two overnight stages. Paddon-Marshall, Hyundai i20 R5 and Scandola-D'Amore, Skoda Fabia R5, are respectively second and third absolute. Simone Campedelli retired from the last test on his Ford Fiesta R5 due to an incident.

Sanremo (IM) 01/04/2017 – Paolo Andreucci, Anna Andreussi and the Peugeot 208 T16 R5, confirm on top of the charts in the first intense racing day at the end of the initial six tests of the 64° Rallye Sanremo. The Tuscan driver of Peugeot Italia ended on top the opening overnight leg that had several twists coming first in four of the six timed stages. Andreucci currently enjoys a 17’’4 gap on Hayden Paddon, Hyundai i20 R5, and 25’’ on Umberto Scandola, Skoda Fabia R5. The New Zealand's driver has been very good and set the quickest time in the long 33.60 km of the "Ronde". Overnight stages allowed Alessandro Perico to end the day in fourth position 55''6 shy of the leader on Skoda Fabia R5. Simone Campedelli and Pietro Ometto, run a strong day but had to retire due to an exit in the second last stage of the day. Elwis Chentre, on Hyundai 20 R5 and Fabrizio Andolfi JR ended respectively in fifth and sixth position. The driver from Savona on Abarth 124 Rally, has shown an improved competitiveness that allowed him to keep the lead of the Italian RGT championship and that of the single make Abarth 124 Rally Trophy. Ivan Ferrarotti is currently seventh on Ford Fiesta R5. Riccardo Canzian run a strong rally and put a lot of pressure on Kevin Gilardoni, eventually managing to get past him in the closing two stages. This gave him the provisional lead of the 2WD Italian Championship and of the Clio R3T Trophy. Marco Pollara and Giuseppe Princiotto close the classification on the works Peugeot 208 R2,  leading the Junior classification. In the Italian R1 Championship, Filippo Bravi and Davide Cecchetto lead the way on the Twingo R1A, and are followed by Alberto Paris and by the Suzuki Swift R1B driven by Stefano Strabello.

The second and closing leg of the rally Sanremo will begin early on Saturday April 1st. Five stages are in the programme. The first “S. Damiano” (10,24 km) will open the day,  “Ginestro-Colle d'Oggia” (27,38 km) and “Vignai” (14,31 km) tests will then follow. The second  “S.Damiano” (S.S. 10) and  “Ginestro-Colle d'Oggia” will be the final sprint to the finish line that will close the Sanremo rallye in Sanremo at 16.00.
